Career Readiness at Dematic

Grand Rapids, MI, USA

Dematic’s Grand Rapids campus hosted two educational visits aimed at enhancing students' understanding of the supply chain and logistics business sector. MSU’s Executive MBA program and Western Michigan University’s Industrial Engineering Department each visited to explore Dematic’s operations, with a focus on engineering functions and business practices.

These visits provided students with a firsthand look at Dematic’s innovative practices and technologies, enriching their educational experience and contributing to the development of skills and competencies for future industry leaders.

Volunteering at FIRST Robotics Competition

Kentwood, MI, USA

Since 2008, Dematic has sponsored teams in the FIRST robotics competitions, where students are challenged to raise funds, develop team identities, and design and program industrial-size robots to compete in field games. As a long-standing event partner, Dematic sponsored the Kentwood District FIRST competition, where numerous employees volunteered as judges, referees, and in various other roles.

To kick off the event, Dematic President, Mike Larsson, addressed the participants and audience, highlighting Dematic’s ongoing commitment to FIRST and its mission to inspire and support the next generation of engineers and innovators.

Refurbishing Bikes, Restoring Mobility

Our dedicated EHS Team partnered with Upcycle Bikes to refurbish bicycles, mastering essential maintenance techniques and safety protocols. From identifying issues to meticulous cleaning and replacing unsafe components, we're committed to promoting rider safety and sustainability through hands-on upcycling. Upcycle Bikes refurbishes and donates adult bikes to provide an affordable and accessible transportation resource for financially constrained individuals.

North America Colleagues Remember 9/11 Through Service

9/11 Day, the largest day of service in the U.S., transforms a day of remembrance into one of giving back. Dematic colleagues across several U.S. cities, including Atlanta, Cincinnati, Seattle, Phoenix, and Dallas, participated in meal packing events to combat food insecurity in their local communities.

Dematic Manufacturing Team Supports Food Security

Grand Rapids, MI, USA

The Grand Rapids Manufacturing team partnered with local community organization Kids’ Food Basket to support food security efforts in the region. As part of this initiative, team members contributed their time and effort by cutting and packaging fresh produce, which was then used in Sack Suppers—meals provided to local children facing food insecurity.

Christopher Street Day

Frankfurt, Germany

Employees in Germany participated in a local Pride event, hosting a stand as part of the “Bazaar of Diversity.” Over three days, the team engaged with attendees, shared information about Dematic’s mission, and distributed branded items to foster connection and visibility.

The activation reinforced our commitment to inclusion and was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback. Plans are underway to support future events.

Push-ups for Wellness

Belrose, Sydney

Throughout the month of June, our team participated in The Push-Up Challenge, a national initiative aimed at raising awareness and funds for mental health services across Australia. In partnership with the Push For Better Foundation, participants were encouraged to complete either the full target of 3,249 push-ups or a half-goal over the course of 24 days. Each push-up represented a real and powerful statistic related to mental health in Australia, serving both as a physical challenge and a meaningful reminder of the importance of mental wellbeing.

Supporting Tafels in Germany

Heusenstamm, Germany

Colleagues from Heusenstamm and Offenbach rolled up their sleeves to support two local food banks (known in Germany as a “Tafel”). Together, they contributed 53 hours of service, assisting with food distribution and reorganizing storage facilities to improve operational efficiency. The increased demand for these vital resources has inspired our colleagues to continue their service during their personal time and future office projects.

Our Thankful Heart

Suzhou Plant and Shanghai, China

Colleagues from our Suzhou Plant and Shanghai office in China visited local community nursing homes to offer care and connection to elderly residents. Volunteers brought essential supplies and refreshments, engaged in heartfelt conversations, and participated in shared activities such as crafting DIY paper fans, light sports, and a group singalong of “My Thankful Heart.”

The visits were filled with warmth and joy, with one nursing home sharing that their oldest resident is 104 years old. In a meaningful gesture of appreciation, staff and residents presented silk banners to our teams, recognizing their compassion and support.

Spring Cleaning in the Community

Global Service with Volunteer Month

In 2024, Dematic participated in our second annual Global Volunteer Month sponsored by Points of Light throughout April. Created as a time to celebrate service and inspire volunteerism, this global group project engaged more than 300 employees worldwide. Locally led by our campus champion network, Employee Resource Groups, and team leads, our organization contributed more than 1,000 hours of service in the communities we call home.

Family Beach Clean-up

Singapore

Employees and their family members from KION South Asia, LMH SG, and Dematic SG came together for a beach clean-up at East Coast Park. While Singapore's beaches are generally well-maintained, the team collected approximately 13kg of trash, contributing to the ongoing preservation of the local environment.

Remote Colleagues United in Service

Phoenix, AZ, USA

A group of remote colleagues volunteered with Feed My Starving Children in Phoenix, where they packed 114 boxes containing a total of 24,624 meals. These meals will provide daily nutrition for 67 children over the course of an entire year, at a total cost of $7,140.96.

Nacionalinis Miškasodis

Lithuania

In celebration of Earth Day, Lithuanian employees participated in the national "Nacionalinis Miškasodis" event, volunteering at a local forestry project. The team contributed to environmental sustainability by planting pine and fir trees within the forest, helping to enhance local ecosystems and support long-term forest health.

This hands-on initiative demonstrated our commitment to environmental stewardship and fostering a greener, more sustainable future for the community.

More than 20 students from Dematic sponsored FIRST teams visited our AMCS headquarters in Grand Rapids. Our employees had a chance to learn more about FIRST by the students and they shared how much of an impact the program has had on their leadership development. The highlight of the day came when the students demonstrated their team robots as they enter competition season.

Coats for Kids

Austin, Texas, USA

Our Austin area team joined forces with the Junior League of Austin for the annual Coats for Kids initiative. By donating time and treasure, our team united to organize thrift store goods and provide warm clothes for those in need for the holidays. Together, this effort with the Junior League of Austin provided more than 30,000 warm winter coats to Central Texas children in need.

Project Learning Garden

Atlanta, GA, USA

Through our Office of Sustainability, Dematic launched a partnership with Captain Planet Foundation’s Project Learning Garden program which provides a context for multidisciplinary learning, ranging from nutrition and science to social studies, math, and language arts. Our Atlanta office installed the second learning garden at Virginia Highlands Elementary School along with students, educators and community leaders.

The Milwaukee office regularly volunteers at Hunger Task Force, Milwaukee's local and free foodbank. For this engagement, our team of 15 spent 3 hours packing stock boxes of pantry staples and necessary resources that were delivered to seniors across the state.

Supporting Local Educators

Dematic’s Plano office partnered with Plano ISD’s Professional Learning Department by providing two educators with an immersive learning experience across the organization. Part of Plano ISD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, these educators specialize in pre-engineering and project management. During their week at Dematic, Tina and Parul visited a local site installation and spent meaningful time with Sales, Solutions Development, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Engineering Leadership, Software Engineering, Product Engineering, Purchasing, and Project Management to understand the Project Execution framework.

Legambiente’s Annual Clean-up

Our Milan office and their families collaborated with Bosch Rexroth Italia for Legambiente’s annual clean-up around the Cernusco sul Naviglio township. Together, they collected 88 kg of waste and 1.7 kg of cigarette butts to improve the neighborhood while teaching valuable environmental lessons and principles to the children.

Caring for Nature

A team from the Grand Rapids office met at the Blandford Nature Center to divide and conquer on various activities. Plenty of fresh air was enjoyed removing invasive garlic mustard from the Highlands location and weeding the various gardens at the farm. They even learned a new term "weed dating," which refers to the random conversations that happen when you're weeding and getting to know your colleagues! The mission of Blandford is to engage and empower our community through enriching experiences in nature.

By working collaboratively to meet the needs of every child and family they serve, Kids' Food Basket pursues a hunger-free West Michigan in a way that promotes the experiences and passion of the local community.

Supporting Children in Need

The commercial strategy team put their creative skills to the test to bring life to ordinary boxes for children and helped Love Pacs re-think their storage process. Their day of service ended with providing the supplies to Gateway Family Shelter who provides stability & life-changing supportive services to families with children affected by homelessness.

Remote Colleagues Unite in Service

Phoenix, AZ, USA

Community engagement connects all employees and we are grateful two remote colleagues in the Phoenix area united in service. Shevon and David spent the day at Feed My Starving Children preparing nutritious MannaPack® meals specifically designed to assist in reversing and preventing undernutrition. During their session, 246 boxes were packed and 53,136 meals were prepared which provided 144 kids with healthy meals throughout the year.

Several Dematic employees volunteered over the weekend and many of the volunteers also serve as coaches or mentors with the competing teams. FIRST is an incredible organization that invites students from as young as four years-old through high school to participate in STEM/STEAM activities.

Red Nose Day

Red Nose Day is a time of year when incredible cake-bakers, joke-makers, telly-watchers, t shirt-wearers, Red Nose-buyers and laugh-til-you-cryers, do something to fight poverty through humour and fun, for communities in the UK and around the world. Our UK offices came together to raise money for the cause with a competitive and fun bake sale for one collective donation to the effort.

Fighting Food Insecurity

Dematic’s Global Execution and Sustainability leadership team took time away from strategy sessions to be with Atlanta Community Food Bank. While at the food bank, the team sorted food and prepared meals to support the greater Metro Atlanta community. In total, 18,585 lbs and 15,487 meals were prepared!
